AFLI’s institutional strength and uniqueness lie in its ability to draw upon a reservoir of researchers and analysts (virtual staff) consisting of African policy practitioners, intellectuals and leaders from diverse and specialized fields. The INSTITUTE also builds on its privileged access to information and high level policy makers. This is further complimented by the wealth of experience and insights possessed by a number of its secretariat officials, Board of Directors, Advisory Board and Board of Trustees in the policy making terrain in Africa.
This powerful team of national, regional and international experts (virtual staff) on African issues complemented by a council of eminent persons soon to be established shall serve as a reality check and thereby, making the INSTITUTE’s research findings and policy recommendations appropriate, concrete and practical.AFLI’s Research findings and policy options and recommendations contained in its documented out-puts presented in the form of policy alerts (Firimbi), situational reports (SITREPS), policy briefs and updates as well as monographs are calibrated to directly inform AFLI’s periodic engagement with high level policy makers in the Africa region. These are therefore used in deriving specific strategic advice tendered to guide leadership’s decision-making processes as well as assisting them in the tasks of resolving the topical problems afflicting their people.
The INSTITUTE’s personnel are in many instances involved in facilitating peace and democratic processes, providing technical expertise and strategic advice to key actors, and feeding back into the INSTITUTE’s on-going research and analysis.
